Input lag figures are manufacturer-rated game-mode numbers, typically measured at 1080p/120Hz or 4K/60Hz. Real-world lag outside game mode is often 3-5x higher. Prices refresh throughout the day.

How to Read Input Lag Numbers

Game mode is everything

Every number in this table assumes the projector's Game / Fast / Low Latency mode is ON. Out of the box, picture processing (keystone correction, motion smoothing, noise reduction) adds 30-100ms. A "16ms projector" without game mode enabled can measure 60ms+. Digital keystone correction also adds lag โ€” position the projector square to the screen for competitive play.

Resolution changes the number

Most gaming projectors post their fastest figure at 1080p/120Hz or 240Hz (4-9ms) and a higher one at 4K/60Hz (~16ms). Both are excellent. On consoles, that maps neatly onto Performance (1080p/120) vs Fidelity (4K/60) modes โ€” the projector keeps up with either.

What the frame math means

At 60fps a frame lasts 16.7ms; at 120fps, 8.3ms. Input lag under one frame time means your input appears on the very next frame โ€” effectively instant. That's why 8ms at 120Hz and 16ms at 60Hz are both "one frame" and feel equally responsive at their refresh rates.

Projector vs gaming TV

The best gaming TVs measure 5-10ms; the projectors at the top of this table match that. What projectors trade away is VRR and 4K/120 (HDMI 2.1 features). What you get instead is a 100-150 inch image โ€” a trade most big-screen gamers happily make.

Input Lag FAQ

What input lag do I need for competitive shooters?

Aim for 16ms or less โ€” ideally under 10ms at 1080p/120Hz. The Optoma GT1080HDR (8.4ms) and BenQ TH685P (8.3ms) are the classic competitive picks. Beyond the display, use a wired controller or low-latency wireless, and skip any digital keystone correction.

Why isn't projector X in this database?

We only list projectors with a documented game-mode input lag figure. Many lifestyle and home-theater projectors (portable XGIMI/Nebula models, most UST laser TVs) never publish one โ€” which itself is a signal: if gaming responsiveness were a strength, the spec sheet would say so. For those models assume 30-60ms and treat them as casual-gaming displays.

Do wireless HDMI or streaming sticks add lag?

Yes โ€” wireless HDMI kits add 50-200ms and are unusable for gaming. Always run a physical HDMI cable from the console to the projector. For long ceiling-mount runs, use a certified Ultra High Speed HDMI cable or an active/fiber HDMI cable, which carry the signal without added latency.
